International Women’s Day 2022

8 March 2022

This International Women’s Day, all of us at British Sugar are proud to celebrate the women across our business and the wider homegrown sugar sector for the contribution they make to our industry, and indeed towards this year’s International Women’s Day theme of ‘breaking the bias’.

Women now contribute a vital role across the historically male-dominated agriculture and manufacturing industries, including farming, scientific research and engineering. This contribution is rising, and we continue to encourage more women to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) based roles with us at British Sugar.

We believe that creating an inclusive working environment to attract and retain a more diverse workforce will enhance growth within our business by enabling differing perspectives and insight. With so many career routes to be taken within British Sugar, we witness the benefits of uplifting women across the board and allowing space for innovation and creativity.

The women within British Sugar are by far the best advocates for this progress. We know more work needs to be done and we will continue to create an environment where all can grow across our diverse range of career paths. Whether that be in engineering, within our factory operations to supply our customers, field-based agriculture or within the support functions based at our central office in Peterborough – from the commercial team to finance and IT.

Women have always been involved in agriculture and manufacturing, but historically their contributions not always recognised. We want to continue to celebrate women’s achievements in our sector while advocating and promoting diversity that allows employees and the business to thrive.

More work must be done, but at British Sugar we are exceptionally proud of all the women within our ranks and the input they have on our growth and overall success.
