Case study
7 May 2026
As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing operational emissions at British Sugar, we have been exploring opportunities to reduce Scope 3 emissions from our logistics fleet.
Within this, we are focusing on three areas – reduced road miles, increased payload and switching to alternate fuels.
To date we have increased vehicle payload by 200 kilos which has enabled reduced vehicle movement. And this month have introduced two new fully electric trucks for inter-factory movements from our Bury St Edmunds and Wissington sites to our bagging warehouse.
With thanks to our logistic partners Masters Logistical, the new EV trucks deliver zero tailpipe emissions and are designed for intensive regional and urban operations, making them well suited for the regular shuttle movements required.
It is estimated the two EV trucks will together save more than 100 tonnes of CO2 annually, while providing an opportunity to assess the performance of electric trucks within high-volume logistics operations.
Stewart Dickson, Head of Logistics at British Sugar comments: “Reducing Scope 3 emissions from our logistics fleet remains a core focus for British Sugar. The introduction of two electric trucks into Masters fleet demonstrates not only our long-standing collaboration, but the ambition to invest in low and zero tailpipe emission vehicles for a cleaner and more efficient future.”
