British Sugar signs up with Apprenticeships Norfolk

30 January 2017

British Sugar is pleased to announce that it has signed up with Apprenticeships Norfolk. Together our two organisations will be working to promote the value of apprenticeship schemes.

British Sugar is the 110th member to join Apprenticeships Norfolk promoting good quality apprenticeships.

“We are excited to be working with Apprenticeships Norfolk and see it as a real opportunity to get information about our schemes out in the public domain. We are very firm supporters of apprenticeship schemes having had them in British Sugar for the last forty years and in the last ten years we’ve trained over 90 apprentices, many of whom are still with the business today ” said Elliott Fisher, People Development Manager.

British Sugar has been making sugar for over 100 years and today is one of Europe’s leading producers. We have four advanced manufacturing plants in the UK, Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, Newark and Wissington.

Sugar production is at the core of our operations, but by using a highly integrated approach to manufacturing, we aim to transform all of our raw materials into sustainable products.

We produce over 1 million tonnes of sugar in the UK and an additional 500,000 tonnes of animal feed from sugar beet pulp.

Using our Combined Heat & Power plants, we export enough electricity for over 120,000 homes and we invested in the UK’s first Bioethanol plant, producing up to 70 million litres of renewable fuel every year.

Today, British Sugar runs three types of advanced apprenticeship scheme, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical Process Engineering.

We are pleased to announce that we are recruiting for 11 Chemical Process Apprentices across our four sites starting September 2017.

The schemes are delivered in partnership with our training provider TTE and the initial phase of the technical training is completed at TTE training centre, Middlesbrough on a residential basis.

Three Outward Bound experiences are included in the four year scheme in the Lake District. These experiences are designed to support an apprentice’s personal growth.

All 3 schemes are a Level 3 with the option of completing a level 4 HNC on completion of the scheme. On successful appointment after four years starting salary is £36,754 increasing to £41,767 after 12 months.

Information on the schemes can be found at our apprentice and graduate site WWW.NotJustSugar.Com
