British Sugar plays an active role in the wider business community, working with hundreds of different suppliers and contractors.
In addition, we are supplied sugar beet by around 4,000 growers and work closely with growers, hauliers and advisers to share the latest technical information. Our internet portal system can be accessed by the beet industry 24/7 and provides technical information, self-administration and support tools.
The Prompt Payment Code
British Sugar is fully committed to fair and consistent payment practices for our supply chain and in June 2009 we were approved as a signatory of the Prompt Payment Code (PPC). The voluntary code has been developed by the government, with the Institute of Credit Management (ICM) and is designed to promote best practice for payment of suppliers. The scheme is independently monitored by the Institute of Credit Management (ICM), the largest professional credit management organisation in Europe.

Sedex
Many of British Sugar’s products play a significant role in our customers’ supply chains and we work with them in a number of areas to enhance their own sustainability activities. In 2007, we became a member of the Suppliers Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) and have recently completed an independent audit of our data.
