British Sugar encourages its sites to play an active role in local communities through media visits, schools activities, agricultural and environmental events. We have a regular dialogue with leading and local NGOs.
We receive many requests to film our operations and the past year has included visits from Jimmy Doherty to film our tomato-growing operation for the BBC’s ‘Jimmy Doherty’s Farming Heroes’ and the Great British Menu, where ‘central region’ chef Daniel Clifford visited our Bury St Edmunds Factory to find out how sugar is made before using it in his dessert.
Most recently, the BBC’s ‘Countryfile’ team visited Norfolk to learn more about how sugar beet is grown, harvested and processed at our Wissington Factory.
Charitable donations
All of British Sugar's sponsorship and charitable funds are allocated to our employee fundraising activities through a "Supporting YOU to support others" programme.
This programme demonstrates British Sugar's commitment and support to our employees' charitable organisations or causes close to their hearts.
