About Us British Sugar is the UK’s leading sugar supplier and the most cost-efficient sugar producer in Europe. Along with Allied Bakeries, Silver Spoon, The Ryvita Company and Twining and Company Ltd, we are part of Associated British Foods.
UK Operations Our processing plants, sited across East Anglia and the East Midlands, rival the technical complexity of anything offered by the oil, chemical or power industries. They form the backbone of our operation and together they process more than 7m tonnes of sugar beet in each production campaign between September and February which, in turn, produces around 7,500 tonnes of sugar each and every day. It’s a 24/7 operation calling for the highest quality technical expertise in order to meet more than half the UK’s sugar needs.
However, our business doesn’t simply begin and end at the factory gates. Ours is a complex operation, working with 5,000 beet suppliers and paying around £180m each year for a crop covering 125,000 hectares. As well as offering our expertise on all aspects of growing beet, we also invest heavily in research and development, examining every issue that features in our business, from new product development to increasing crop yield.
