Quality Standards

British Sugar's Quality System has been developed to identify and implement actions that are critical to the achievement of the goals laid out in our Corporate Quality Statement. Many of the principles, tools and techniques of Total Quality management are used in the way British Sugar functions and seeks to improve.

ISO 9000 Accreditation

All British Sugar sites have been registered to ISO 9000 for many years. We see many benefits in maintaining registration and having an effective quality management system in place. We have developed this into a fully integrated Business Management system, which has now achieved the transition and been certified to the revised standard ISO9001:2000

The scope of our Registration covers:

For Manufacturing Sites:
The manufacture, storage, handling, packaging and distribution of sugar and sugar products.
For Head Office:

The provision of quality system definition and policy.
The purchase of critical goods and services.
The purchase of sugar beet seed and sugar beet.
The planning of production, co-ordination of distribution and selling of sugar products.

For Operations Services Science Laboratories:
The provision of analytical services to British Sugar Manufacturing locations.

British Retail Consortium (BRC) Certification Scheme

In 2000, British Sugar’s Silver Spoon sites achieved certification to the ‘British Retail Consortium Global Standard for Food’. Subsequently, between June 2003 and June 2004, British Sugar’s beet processing plants also achieved certification to the standard.

Certification to the BRC Global Standard for Food will further strengthen our established Quality Management Systems.
