UK Operations

Located in East Anglia and the East Midlands, our state-of-the-art sugar beet processing plants can match anything in the oil, chemical and power industries for complexity. Together, they process more than 7 million tonnes of sugar beet (the UK's entire crop) during each production campaign (September to February).

They produce more than 1 million tonnes of sugar per year. The factories operate right around the clock during the campaign with activities such as maintenance, juice refining and capital investment taking up the rest of the year. Overall, they satisfy more than half the UK's sugar requirements and supply export markets as widespread as Israel, Pakistan and Hong Kong.

However, our business doesn't begin and end at the factory gates. We work closely with our 5,000 beet suppliers. We pay around £180 million a year for a crop covering 125,000 hectares and we offer expert advice on all aspects of growing. We also have a substantial commitment to research and development, looking at everything from new product development to increasing crop yield.
